Eric works swing shift now, 4pm-2am. I love it because he is around to help with the kids more. I think he likes it too, but he has mentioned that his body isn't used to it yet. Now that I put the kids to bed, I decided that Avery can no longer take naps or she is a bear to get to sleep at a decent hour and I demand alone time at night. She has been doing fine for a couple weeks, although a bit loopier than usual in the late afternoon. Yesterday and today she snuck in naps, though, and would not be woken up. Tate put the green alien voice machine up to her face and talked to her. Nothing. He clapped books in the room. Still nothing. This is why I found myself on a date with Tate for dinner tonight, as both Avery and Henry were asleep. I welcomed the experience because I feel like I don't give him enough of my time. Henry's a great baby, but a baby by definition is demanding. And Avery is still dealing with the issue of being dethroned of her status as youngest child.
So, I reheated some spaghetti for me, and plain noodles for Tate. He excitedly suggested that we pretend we are at a restaurant and there are dancers. Then he jumped up and danced in the living room. An hour later, his noodles sat at the table untouched. But he did build an impressive house with a tunnel underneath out of uncooked spaghetti noodles on the table. Then he built a giant fort in my room before going to bed. Three kids are so easy to take care of when only one of them is awake.
I like my kids in hats.
Aunt Jen bought the kids sweet shirts for school. Although Avery won't be going to regular school, she does go to speech at Hawthorne Elementary.
Henry and his cousin. He's 3 months her senior. I call her Emmy, but want to call her Dez, for Dezzie. I just never remember to call her that! I've also heard her called Ed, for Ember Dezzie. I'll have to remember to call her that =)
I just really love this face. This hip outfit is from Uncle Eli and Aunt Marie, which is fitting because they are so hip =)
The following is Tate's "Nephi" pose. He requested I take the picture and send it to Uncle Tyler. To which Ty responded, "What's his angle?". I, too, would like to know that, but I'm pretty sure that asking Tate what his angle is would lead to no less than 329 questions from the kid and I just don't even want to start.
Yesterday's napping princess with aforementioned sound machine.
Henry was silently watching Tate try to wake Avery. I like this expression. He really is a quiet 5 month old, except he snorts a lot. Dad always says, "He's such a good boy." And I know that's silly because all babies are good, but it's so true. He's just a good solid kid with a sweet and good temperament.
This was the poor child today. Sneaky little thing sneaking in those naps.
